WORDS as ART
For bookbinders, book artists, artists and art journalists:
When talking to people in my book arts group, I realised many of us had made beautifully bound books that were blank. Lots of them. Many of us have stories in our heads, but we were not putting those in books. I did too. All those stories weren’t being shared.
I was curious, why?
After thinking about it, I saw we did not have a process, the confidence, or the design skills to put our own stories in them. Does that sound right? I want to help change this by creating an online course around exercises to build skills to use our words, to use our own stories in book art. This can give you skills to use type as pattern for book covers, to use type in creative ways in books, art journals and artwork. It is NOT a creative writing workshop, though you are welcome to use your own words for the exercises. I would love your input on what skills you are interested in learning. This workshop is the first module I am developing around this topic.
In this workshop, I will show you techniques to create samples of different styles of your own handwriting to use in an artwork. Specifically, to find a match between a handwriting style and a creative project. Once you understand this process, you can use this for many creative projects. There will be a worksheet and some hands- on exercises.
